Argan Oil (Argania Spinosa)
Argan Oil, Extra Virgin, Cold pressed from Morocco, USDA and ECOCERT Certified Organic. An Artisan oil, produced by the Berber women's co-operative.
History and Anecdotal Information: The Argan tree, native to Morocco, produces a nut that when cold pressed produces an exceptional oil with therapeutic and restorative properties. This extraordinary oil, commonly referred to as “liquid gold”, was discovered by the Berber people in Morocco thousands of years ago. Seeing the goats nibble from the tree piqued their curiosity. Soon, they noticed the nut in the goat excrement, and learned that if these nuts were cleaned, crushed and pressed, they would produce useable, medicinal oil. Argan oil has been a staple in the skincare and culinary diet of the Moroccan people ever since. For over 5,000 years, Moroccan women have used Argan Oil to moisturize and smooth their skin, and add luster and sheen to their long, dark hair. Please note that Argan Oil is no longer harvested from goat excrement today.
Chemical Composition: Argan oil contains a number of beneficial components, including:
Fatty acids, mostly Poly-unsaturated Fatty Acids. Fatty acids found in large concentration are:
In smaller concentrations the Fatty acids Gadoleic, Arachidic and Linolenic
A high proportion of natural Tocopherols prolong the oils' shelf life.
Thanks to its exceptional content of unsaturated fatty acids, Argan Oil helps in the restoration of the hydro-lipidic film of the skin. Linoleic acid, which is one of the Omega-6 fatty acids is a precursor of vitamin F. Linoleic acid is present in Argan Oil at a concentration three times higher than in olive oil. As an essential fatty acid it has a key role in preserving cell integrity. The particularly high content of natural tocopherols gives the oil excellent anti-free radical properties and natural self-protection against oxidation.
General Benefits: Internally, it has proven to reduce insulin resistance, arthritic conditions, and lower the risk of heart disease in men. Another great way of incorporating Argan Oil into your daily or weekly regime is to take advantage of its culinary uses. The oil meant for consumption is processed a second time, refining it and making it suitable for ingestion. It can also withstand high temperatures, which is perfect for use in the kitchen in addition to drizzling it on raw salads and cooked vegetables.
Skin Benefits: Moisturizing, Nourishing, Anti-Aging, Anti-Oxidant, Retorative, Regenerating, Protecting, Softening
Skin Care Applications: The high levels of anti-oxidants found in Argan Oil counteract free radical activity. It is one of the fastest absorbing oils which accounts to why it moisturizes without leaving the skin oily. It also heals sun damage, prevents irritation, clears uneven skin tone and blemishes, and is said to drastically soften the appearance of stretch marks and scars when blended with Rosehip Seed Carrier Oil and other similarly beneficial ingredients. Besides its nourishing and healing affects on the skin, it also strengthens fragile nails, hydrates and nourishes dry, frizzy hair, and prevents split ends.
